Szeged Open-Air Festival begins today
The 2024 season of the Szeged Open-Air Festival (Szegedi Szabadtéri) begins tonight at the Újszeged Open-Air Stage with a gala performance of the Tiszavirág Folk Dance Ensemble. At the festival's main stage at Dóm Square, the season will start on June 24, with the traditional Gift Concert of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra.
Nearly 300 folk dancers from Szeged, Röszke, and Deszk will perform at the gala, where the Kossuth Prize-winner folktale collector and performer, András Berecz, and the 24-year-old folk music ensemble, the Juhász Band will accompany the dancers and shape the whole performance into a single tale.
The 93rd Szeged Open-Air Festival season will feature musicals, plays, concerts, and an opera performance and last until the end of August at two venues, the well-known Dóm Square stage – built every year especially for this event – and the renovated Újszeged stage.
