Pre-selection jury announced for the 9th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival

The pre-selection jury for the 9th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival has been assembled, the festival's organizers announced in a press release.

Since mid-November, submissions have been open for the 9th Zsigmond Vilmos International Film Festival (ZSIFF), which will take place in the spring this year. The event is scheduled to run from May 27 to 31, 2024, at the Belvárosi Cinema in Szeged.

For the first time in the festival’s history, organizers are accepting not only films but also video clips, where the focus will similarly be on cinematography and creative visual storytelling.

Entries from all over the world—whether from Colombia, the United States, Poland, Mexico, Ireland, or Germany—will once again be judged by a professional pre-selection jury. Feature films will be evaluated by cinematographer Miklós Buk, a board member of the Hungarian Cinematographers' Association (HCA), and Ágnes Kocsis, a Balázs Béla Award-winning director and screenwriter, who also serves as president of the Association of Hungarian Directors.

Short films will be assessed by director, screenwriter, and university professor Gábor Ferenczi, alongside cinematographer Zoltán Lovasi. Documentary films will be selected by previous ZSIFF award winner cinematographer Evelin Tóth, and director Máté Bence Fazekas.

The newly introduced video clip category will feature visually compelling contemporary works chosen by Gábor Szabó, the festival's jury president, Balázs Béla Award-winning cinematographer, and president of the Hungarian Cinematographers' Association.

Submissions remain open, with organizers accepting films and video clips created after January 1, 2023, until January 15, 2025, via the FilmFreeway platform.
