University of Szeged unveils "CommuniTIK" to celebrate 20 years of TIK
Marking two decades of innovation and community building, the University of Szeged inaugurated "CommuniTIK," a new student engagement space, during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the József Attila Study and Information Center (TIK).
The University of Szeged celebrated the 20th anniversary of the József Attila Study and Information Center (TIK) on December 9, 2024, with the inauguration of "CommuniTIK," a new community space aimed at fostering stronger connections and engagement among students. The anniversary event highlighted TIK’s significance as a key institution not only for academic support but also for community life at the university.
Since its opening in 2004, TIK has emerged as one of the most popular university institutions in Szeged. In addition to serving as a modern library and study space, the building plays host to a wide array of events, including Faculty galas, graduation ceremonies, and high-profile conferences such as the recent mRNA conference. TIK also houses the Katalin Karikó exhibition, honoring the work of the Nobel laureate and University of Szeged alumna. Visitors to TIK can also enjoy a gift shop and a vibrant café on the ground floor, making it a multifaceted hub for academic and social activities.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tamás Bene, Head of the Directorate for International Affairs and Public Relations, underscored TIK’s role as a central hub for the university and the Szeged community. He emphasized that spaces like CommuniTIK, which encourage student interaction, are vital for fostering a sense of belonging and improving student retention by building strong support networks.
The newly unveiled CommuniTIK space features amenities such as gaming consoles, table football, table tennis, and a book exchange shelf to encourage informal interaction and relaxation. The space is accessible and inclusive, providing an inviting environment for students to connect or unwind outside of traditional academic settings.
Henriett Belák of CAS Software Kft. spoke about CommuniTIK's potential to strengthen relationships within the university community, as well as between students and industry partners. “This initiative represents an important step in creating stronger, more dynamic relationships among students and beyond,” she said.
The anniversary celebration also included guided tours of TIK, performances by the mIsidore Choir, and seasonal activities to commemorate the dual milestone of the center’s 20th anniversary and the holiday season.
