Documentary Film Club launches in Szeged
Motiváció Műhely organizes a Documentary Film Club in Szeged and invites everyone interested to the first screening on Thursday, September 28, at their Community Space in Feketesas Street.
The Documentary Film Club, a cooperation of Motiváció Műhely, Szegedify Magazine, and KineDok Hungary, will be a monthly event, showcasing documentaries about today’s most urgent topics. The films, provided by KineDok, will be screened either with original audio and English subtitles or in some cases with English audio.
Screenings are free and everyone interested is welcome to join. The language of the events is English, and the screenings will be followed by a roundtable talk.
Lines, a Slovak documentary, will be screened at the first Film Club event on September 28.
The film portrays the daily commotion of modern Bratislava, showcasing it as a prime example of a post-socialist city where residents face the ongoing challenges of urban development, worsening traffic congestion, escalating housing costs, and their own personal struggles.
Its protagonists have very different backgrounds. Among them, there is a single woman in her fifties, an enthusiastic young activist, a cool real estate agent, a road worker reflecting on the things of life, and a homosexual composer. In their own way, each of them tries to respond to the way the city is constantly changing and transforming.
Lines won the Opus Bonum Award for Best World Documentary at the 25th edition of the Czech Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in 2021.
The film is shown in the original language with English subtitles. After the screening, there will be an informal discussion moderated by Jacob Doyle, content wizard and independent journalist currently living in Szeged. Jacob spent more than ten years in Hungary and worked for the Central European University, the Budapest Business Journal, and the McDaniel College in Budapest, among others.
