Kövér Béla Puppet Theater in Szeged started its 77th season on Thursday, September 21, with a playground cleanup and a subsequent company meeting open to the press.

The 2023/24 season started a bit earlier with the SZINkópé Festival, but it's a tradition to officially open the new season of the puppet theater on the Day of Hungarian Drama, September 21, with a company meeting and a playground cleanup.

Everyone at Kövér Béla Puppet Theater is committed to environmental protection and the company likes to draw attention to this topic whenever possible. One way they do this is the cleaning of a playground in Szeged — the audience is invited to recommend the playground — before the opening of each season, a practice that has become a tradition over the years. This year, the puppeteers cleaned up the Szent György Square playground.

This was followed by a company meeting, open to the press, at the theater building, where Ágnes Kiss, the director of the institution, and Jankó Schneider, the theater's artistic director, reported on the successes of the previous season. Kövér Béla Puppet Theater set a national record in the 2022/23 season attracting more than 22,000 spectators to the programs organized by the puppet theater during the 10th Theater Olympics.

In the 2023/24 season, the Kövér Béla Puppet Theater awaits the audience with a colorful repertoire, including shows and programs for smaller and bigger children, and even adults. In addition to the existing shows, five new shows are planned. The program can be found on the theater's website.

It is also very important for the company to actively participate in the life of the city outside of the puppet theater's building. There will be no shortage of giant puppet parades on the streets of Szeged this season either!
