Bor tér Wine Festival 2023
Bor tér, the autumn wine festival of Szeged, kicks off today at Dóm Square. During the 5-day event, ending on Sunday, September 17, more than 100 winemakers will present their best products.
The 11th Bor tér offers a solid gastronomy festival vibe with wineries, craft breweries, brandy (pálinka) houses, and various street food stalls.
The 2023 autumn wine festival opens with a harvest parade on September 13, starting at 6:30 p.m. from Széchenyi Square, followed by afternoon and evening concerts every day on two stages.
As always, there will be a handicraft market too, with handmade soap, jewelry, and lavender products, just to name a few. As in the previous year already, the festival will not only occupy Dóm Square but also the neighboring Aradi vértanúk Square (Aradi vértanúk tere).
A list of participating sellers and a map of the festival site can be found on the organizer's website. Most of the wineries (red on the map) and food stalls (blue) will be located at Dóm Square, with a craft market (green) on the side of the square, while breweries (pink on the map) will be at Aradi vértanúk Square.
Stalls that are yellow on the map will be selling brandy. Festipay top-up and redeeming, information, wine glass-selling and redeeming, security, and medical team are shown on the map in purple.
Payments at Bor tér
Bor tér - also written as Bortér - will be almost entirely cashless. Payments can be made by bank card or any smart device connected to the card. The other option will be the Festipay card, but only in case of wine, wine glasses, food, or beer purchases.
Sellers at the artisan market will not have Festipay terminals, so payments here can be made by cash or card if the seller has a terminal for bank cards.
There will be a Festipay top-up point at Dóm Square (stall No. 110), to get and top up the Festipay card, or redeem the remaining money from the card.
How the Festipay card works
Upon arrival, the cashier of the Festipay top-up point will load an amount determined by you onto the card, of which HUF 500 will be blocked as a one-time deposit fee. You cannot use this amount for purchases, but it will be refunded when you hand in the undamaged card.
You can top up your Festipay card using cash or a bank card. In the case of a new card, the minimum top-up amount is HUF 2,000, the maximum amount is HUF 290,000, while the minimum top-up amount for an existing card is HUF 100.
Be sure to keep the receipt you received when making the top-up. The card can be used without registration, but you can make it even more secure with the PIN code on the receipt. The card can be registered in the free Festipay application.
The amount remaining on the card will be paid back at the top-up point upon leaving the event according to the general rules of rounding (up to HUF 50). Redemption is only possible during the opening hours of the festival.
If you register, the card can be blocked immediately in the Festipay application if it gets lost.
Wine glasses at the 2023 Bor tér
To produce less waste, wineries at the 2023 Bor tér will only serve wine in glasses instead of plastic cups. There will be two options. The 350 ml redeemable wine glass, decorated with the coat of arms of Szeged, costs HUF 1.500. This glass can be redeemed at the glass-selling stalls (No. 44 and 112) for HUF 1.200.
A larger, 480 ml wine glass, decorated with the logo of Bor tér, costs HUF 1,800 — this one is not redeemable. Both can be bought at the wineries or the dedicated glass-selling stalls.
