Day of Szeged 2022

Day of Szeged falls on May 21. Undoubtedly one of the biggest events in the life of the city, this celebration - held each year - is to commemorate the day when Szeged got its coat of arms in 1719.

This year, the actual Day of Szeged is part of a 10-day celebration series and the 2022 Szeged Wine Festival. Nearly 150 wineries, craft beer, brandies, and various street food options await visitors at one of Hungary's biggest wine festivals.

At present, the festival spans Széchenyi Square, Kárász Street, Klauzál Square, and Dugonics Square, with handicraft markets and daily concerts accompanying the food and drink selection.

On its second weekend, May 20-22, other locations join in.

Dóm Square will host concerts from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, with the festive firework on Saturday night.

Szeged Bridge Fair, the biggest handicraft market in the region, awaits visitors on May 21-22, spanning Belvárosi Bridge and Híd Street.

Oskola Street will host NGOs working in and around Szeged, while Móra Park (in front of Móra Ferenc Museum) will be home to the Hungarian Majorette Championship.

For more information about the events, check the Facebook page of the organizer SZVP - Szegedi Városkép és Piac.

Apart from the above, the City of Szeged has official 2022 Day of Szeged programs, organized by the city council, on May 20:

  • 11 a.m.: commemoration at the statue of King Béla IV.

  • 3 p.m.: brass band and dance performance at Széchenyi Square

  • 4 p.m.: Festive city council assembly in front of the town hall with music performances. The Honorary Citizen of Szeged and other awards will be handed over.

On May 21, there are free guided tours in the city hall until 3 p.m. Registration is at the tourinform office.
