Major upgrades completed in Szeged: Palánk block and Somogyi Street resurfaced
The paving reconstruction in the Palánk block area and the section of Somogyi Street leading to Korányi Promenade has been successfully completed. Before Christmas, József Binszki, Deputy Mayor for Urban Policy, provided details of the project to members of the press in front of Tömörkény High School in Szeged.
The road reconstruction of Somogyi Street between Oskola Street and Korányi Promenade, along with the resurfacing of the Palánk block area—encompassing Béla, Révai, Palánk, and Tömörkény Streets—was completed on schedule. The technical handover has also been finalized. The public procurement tender for the project, valued at 135 million forints, was awarded to the Szeged-based company Norbo-Ép Kft.
"Approximately 5,500 square meters of road surface and 1,200 square meters of sidewalk were resurfaced with new asphalt and 820 linear meters of curbstones were installed. As a result, four streets in the area—Tömörkény Street, Béla Street, Palánk Street, and Révai Street—have all been upgraded, along with Somogyi Street up to Korányi Promenade. I believe this represents a significant improvement in the lives of the residents here," said Deputy Mayor Binszki.
"This was a 135-million-forint investment financed entirely from our own resources, as EU funds are no longer available. Consequently, the city has had to undertake these developments using its own budget," Binszki explained. He added:
"This year, we allocated a record-breaking 3.3 billion forints to road and sidewalk reconstruction. We aim to sustain this level of investment annually. By the end of this term, I am confident that this ambitious renovation program will achieve a level of satisfaction among Szeged's residents and citizens."
