Bortér autumn wine festival kicks off on Wednesday

The Bortér autumn wine festival of Szeged will be held at Dóm Square from September 18 to 22, 2024. During the 5-day event, 112 winemakers will present their best products. Additionally, there will be 4 craft breweries and 3 brandy (pálinka) houses. The 12th Bortér will also feature plenty of food options, including chimney cakes, strudel, cheese, the iconic lángos, and other street food.

The autumn wine festival will open with a harvest parade on September 18, starting at 18:30 from Széchenyi Square. The parade will arrive at Dóm Square, which is the venue of the wine festival. At Dóm Square, there will be afternoon and evening concerts every day on two stages to entertain visitors.

At the craft fair, 33 vendors will offer a variety of goods, such as leather goods, handmade ceramics, cosmetics, jewelry, and truffle delicacies. Just like in previous years, the autumn wine fest will not only occupy Dóm Square but also the neighboring Aradi vértanúk Square (Aradi vértanúk tere).

A list of participating sellers and a map of the festival site can be found on the organizer's website. Most of the wineries (red on the map) and food stalls (blue) will be located at Dóm Square, with a craft market (green) on the side of the square, while breweries (pink on the map) will be at Aradi vértanúk Square. Festipay top-up and redeeming, information, wine glass-selling and redeeming, security, charging station, and medical team are shown on the map in purple.

Cashless payments at Bortér

Bortér, also written as Bor tér, has transitioned to a cashless system in 2022. Payments can now be made using a bank card or any smart device connected to a card. Alternatively, the Festipay card can be used for purchasing wine, wine glasses, food, or beer. The Festipay card can be obtained and topped up, and any remaining balance can be redeemed at the dedicated Festipay stall.

Please note that sellers at the craft market will not have Festipay terminals. Payments at the craft market can be made using cash or card if the seller has a terminal for bank cards.

Real wine glasses instead of plastic cups

Just like at the spring wine festival, wine stalls at Bortér will only serve wine in glasses instead of plastic cups. As usual, there will be two options. The redeemable wine glass, decorated with the coat of arms of Szeged, costs HUF 1,500. A somewhat larger wine glass, decorated with the logo of Bor tér, costs HUF 1,800 – this one is not redeemable. Both can be bought at the wineries or the dedicated glass-selling stalls. Wineries will not take the redeemable glass back, only glass-selling stalls will do so.
