19th SZTE University Spring begins today
SZTE's University Spring, with hundreds of cultural programs, is held between April 10 and May 31, 2024.
The 19th spring festival of the University of Szeged launches today. As in previous years, there will be around 300 events held at 70 locations throughout the 7 weeks of the festival, including exhibitions, scientific and informative lectures, conferences, round-table discussions, and concerts in various genres.
Already on the first day, three programs await those interested, including the Student Art Competition, where students can compete in classical music, folk music, jazz, musical, and chanson, as well as poetry and prose recitation categories.
The program series continues on the Day of Hungarian Poetry, which is held on April 11, the birthday of the famous Hungarian poet Attila József. The "Poem at Midday" program, featuring one poem per day, read at midday in front of the Rector's Building at Dugonics Square, starts on this day. As usual, the first reciter will be Dr. Judit Fendler, chancellor of the University of Szeged.
Also on April 11, an exhibition showcasing selected works from the university photo competition will open at 18:00 at the atrium of the Rector's Building.
The official opening of the 2024 SZTE University Spring features a concert by piano virtuoso Soma Balázs-Piri, held on April 12 at 18:00 in the ceremonial hall of the rector's building. The concert is free but registration is required (see link below for catalog).
The University Spring event series will be opened by Prof. Dr. László Rovó, rector of the University of Szeged. Prizes for the Student Art Competition will be handed out during the program.
Important
Most of the programs will be in Hungarian. A catalog with the detailed program, also in Hungarian, can be downloaded from the SZTE website. The programs are open to anyone and mostly free of charge - entrance fees (where applicable) can be found in the downloadable catalog.
Follow Szegedify on Instagram and Facebook, where we will share programs of the University Spring that can be interesting for the wider international community and are suitable for non-Hungarian speakers, too.
