2024 European Rowing Championships and Olympic Qualification Regatta in Szeged

The 2024 European Rowing Championships takes place at the Szeged Olympic Center at Maty-ér between April 25-28. The event also serves as the Europe Continental Olympic & Paralympic Qualification Regatta for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

For the first time in 54 years, the Hungarian Rowing Federation is organizing an international adult world competition, and this will be the largest-ever international rowing event in Hungary, reads the news release of the federation, adding that more than 600 athletes from 34 countries will compete in 32 events.

During the European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta, it is possible to obtain 10 Olympic quotas in 4 events and 3 qualifying places in 3 Paralympic events. Rowers have represented Hungary at every Summer Olympics since 1932. During the Qualification Regatta in Szeged, 6 Hungarian athletes in five units can fight for this year's Olympic participation and 1 for Paralympic participation. At the European championship races, 22 Hungarian rowers can compete for medals in 9 boat units.

Regatta of Universities and Rowing Ergometer Student Olympiad

The Gránit Bank Regatta of Universities takes place on Saturday, April 27, following the example of the long-established university rowing competitions in Anglo-Saxon countries. During the event, rowers from eight Hungarian universities will compete in teams of eight.

Spectators can cheer for the younger ones on Friday, April 26, when more than 400 students aged 12-18 will compete in the finals of the Rowing Ergometer Student Olympiad in the fans' tent.

Accompanying programs for fans

Various programs await visitors in the two-part fan zone — a fans' tent, and an exhibitor's village with rowing-related and gastronomy stands — during the entire duration of the competition.

There will be a rowing history exhibition, featuring Hungary's oldest boat, among other things. Also in the fan zone, a message board, a photo wall, and a quiz station will be set up for visitors. Families with small children can take part in handicraft programs.

In cooperation with the Sporting Nation Program, rowing ergometers can be tried out in the fans' tent, and visitors can compete in daily ranking competitions. In this area, fans can follow the races on projectors.
