Commemorating the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine

Szeged's Ukrainian Nationality Self-Government, the Honorary Consulate General of Ukraine in Szeged, and the Cultural Association of Csongrád County Ukrainians organized an event called "730 days of steadfastness" on February 24, 2024, to commemorate the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine.

The first program of the afternoon, a photo exhibition titled "Women. War. Front." was held at the House of Ethnic Minorities. Dr. Natalia Sajtos-Zapotocsnaja, the head of the Ukrainian Nationality Self-Government, said she wanted to organize a photo exhibition, dedicated especially to the women fighting in the frontlines of Ukraine, for some time now.

The exhibition was opened by the Vysyvanky Choir, followed by Dr. Natalia Sajtos-Zapotocsnaja, speaking about the women who chose to stay in Ukraine and join the army. She then asked the participants to honor the women — some of them pictured in the photos of the exhibition — who died on the frontline with one minute of silence.

After a flute and cello performance, the last poem of Maxim Krivcov, a Ukrainian poet and soldier, was read in Ukrainian and Hungarian. Maxim died on January 7, 2024, at the age of 33, only two days after writing this poem.

The event continued at the Holodomor Memorial at Dóm Square, where, after a short speech, participants laid flowers and lit candles in memory of the victims and in the hope that the war would end with the victory of Ukraine.
