The Szeged Wine Festival will be one day longer this year and last between May 16-26, announced the organizer Szeged Fair and Market Operator (SZVP) yesterday.

The 2024 Szeged Wine Festival and Day of Szeged Celebration Series will start on May 16 and last for 11 days, one day longer than usual. Attila Rácz, managing director of SZVP told the local news outlet szeged.hu that one reason to start a day earlier is that on Friday, May 17, there will be a ceremonial general assembly in front of the City Hall, but that's also the time when the winemakers and caterers would arrive at the Wine Festival. The loading of the goods and some preparations at Széchenyi Square (including in front of the City Hall) would take place on this day.

He also explained that starting a day earlier, on May 16, wineries and other service providers would be able to pack and prepare for the opening, and then after the official opening ceremony, the 11-day wine festival would begin, which will be accompanied by several high-quality programs this year as well.

As usual, the Wine Festival will be accompanied by two other venues, Gasztroudvar at Klauzál Square and Kincs tér at Dugonics Square, where, in addition to wines, craft beer, food specialties, and handicraft products will be on offer.

The other accompanying event, the three-day Dóm Square Cavalcade starts on May 24th, this year with a bigger stage and improved sound and lighting. The organizers are confident that the free concerts will fill the Dóm Square again this year.

Another popular event, the Szeged Bridge Fair will take place on the second weekend of the Szeged Wine Festival.
