University of Szeged secures over 3 billion Forints in HU-RIZONT grant funding

The University of Szeged has secured over 3 billion forints in HU-RIZONT grant funding, supporting eight innovative research projects and strengthening its role in global scientific collaboration, the university announced in a press release.

The University of Szeged's Interdisciplinary Research Development and Innovation Excellence Center secured over 3 billion forints in funding for eight projects through the HU-RIZONT grant. This funding supports internationally significant research initiatives by Hungarian universities that transitioned from being fully state-operated institutions to a model where they are managed by newly established foundations, i.e., model-changing universities.

The projects spanned the Center's Cluster of Life Sciences and Cluster of Science and Mathematics, fostering collaboration with renowned experts from prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge and Yale University.

The National Research, Development, and Innovation Office (NKFIH) supports international research projects through its HU-RIZONT grant program, which offers a total funding pool of 12 billion forints. This initiative aims to empower outstanding Hungarian research groups to collaborate with leading universities and research institutions worldwide, tackling major societal and economic challenges together.

The National Research, Development, and Innovation Office selected 30 winners from 112 submitted applications. Among the recipients, eight projects from the University of Szeged's Interdisciplinary Research Development and Innovation Excellence Center were awarded funding – four from the Cluster of Life Sciences and another four from the Cluster of Science and Mathematics.
