Szeged-based artists Ákos Marton and Leó Vinkó, known collectively as Muralpaint, have been honored with the prestigious Index Award at this year’s Highlights of Hungary event. Their impactful murals, transforming ordinary public spaces into vibrant works of art, address critical environmental and social issues while fostering community engagement. This award underscores their profound contributions to both art and activism, amplifying their impact and garnering even greater acclaim.

Muralpaint’s work is rooted in the belief that art can inspire change and elevate everyday environments. Their standout projects include the "Tiszavirág" mural series, created in collaboration with Szegedi Távfűtő Kft. (the district heating company in Szeged) and the Mondolo Association. These murals, painted on heating plants, beautify industrial sites and promote environmental awareness, combining aesthetics with a strong message of conservation. Their art resonates deeply with communities, transforming urban spaces into meaningful cultural landmarks.

The Highlights of Hungary initiative, which celebrates remarkable achievements across Hungary, saw record participation in 2024, with over 110,000 votes cast from nearly 1,500 localities. Nominated by renowned poet János Lackfi, Muralpaint stood out for their unique ability to enhance community spaces through bold, inspiring designs that merge creativity with purpose. Lackfi praised their dedication to creating works that are both visually striking and socially relevant.

The Index Award, one of several special prizes presented at the Budapest Music Center during the ceremony, includes a year-long media support package. This prize will provide Muralpaint with the resources and visibility needed to expand their artistic impact and continue their mission of bringing meaningful art to public spaces. The event also featured the launch of Inspiráló magyarok – 24 lebilincselő sikertörténet (Inspiring Hungarians – 24 Captivating Success Stories), further showcasing Hungary’s rich tapestry of talent and innovation.
