Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle to be staged in Szeged
The rehearsals of Bertolt Brecht's play The Caucasian Chalk Circle started yesterday at the Kisszínház, the smaller stage of the National Theatre of Szeged. The production, directed by Márk Tárnoki, will be staged with exciting acting and musical interludes starting November 29.
"It is a great task to deal with Brecht because, in the world, questions about morality are rarely asked, but the Szeged National Theatre likes to deal with moral questions - the two premieres of this season so far, Ivan the Terrible and My Fair Lady, both raise serious questions about our humanity. We are asking questions instead of stating definite things," - said the general director, László Barnák, at the beginning of the rehearsal, continuing that the composition of the company - thanks to the diversity of the cast - makes it possible to stage a multi-actor play with fewer actors, i.e., one actor can authentically portray several characters in the production.
Director Márk Tárnoki said that The Caucasian Chalk Circle is one of his favorite plays, so he is very happy to work with the Szeged team. The story shows how many amazing circumstances, often unexpected and unrealistic, have to arise for life to go well in such an amazing and chaotic world.
The performance is set in the present, and the costumes, inspired by the present day, reinforce this with some stylization - the aim is that the visuals do not distance the story, which, as Brecht suggested, is brought to life in a suggestive performance, using our imagination to complement what we see. In the words of Márk Tárnoki, the audience can expect a great team performance in every respect.
