Móra Museum reopens after winter break

Painting of Chinese Christian painter Luke Chen

Móra Ferenc Museum reopens on Saturday, January 27. A part of last year's popular Ancient China exhibition, the terracotta warriors, are still on display in the museum and will remain in Szeged until spring.

In addition, visitors can see a new exhibition titled "Luke Chen - The Creator of the Chinese Christian Painting School", featuring 10 special paintings, several of which were previously thought to be lost.

The new exhibit presents the work of Chen Yuandu, a Chinese painter, who became known as Luke Chen after his baptism. He portrayed classic biblical themes in his depictions, which were considered a worldwide innovation. His art and work played a significant role in creating the Chinese Christian painting.

The paintings, together with a selection of objects collected during the Hungarian Franciscan mission in China were kept at the Franciscan Monastery at Szeged-Alsóváros. Read more about the Chinese relics collected by Franciscan monks in this article.

From January 27, the Móra Ferenc Museum welcomes visitors again every day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
