Dressed-up bagpipes at the Kövér Béla Puppet Theater

Dressed-up bagpipe

An exhibition of the special bagpipes of jazz and folk musician and composer Béla Ágoston has opened at the Kövér Béla Puppet Theater on Sunday, January 28.

“Hungarian bagpipes are usually bare or hairy. The Scottish bagpipe became known for its checkered dress. Other nations also wrap the bagpipe hose. This is where the idea came from to create a genre realized in cooperation.

After composing the music, textile designers, costume designers, puppet makers, and painters invented their own ‘bagpipes’, now dressed like a character. The basis of the musical environment was Hungarian bagpipe music in all cases - the ‘dressing up’ was adapted to the works. In this way, a sound exhibition was created.”

Béla Ágoston plays many instruments, is the founder of different music ensembles, and is also known as a theater and film composer. He composed the music for the play Egy kupac kufli, Kövér Béla Puppet Theater's popular stage adaptation of the children's book of the same name.

The special bagpipe exhibition can be visited free of charge between Jan. 29. - Feb. 3. and Feb. 5. - Feb. 7., 2024. Prior registration is needed.
