Szeged astrophotographer's image chosen as NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day
A photo made by Gábor Galambos, an astrophotographer from Szeged, was chosen by NASA as the Astronomy Picture of the Day, announced the Szeged Observatory on Facebook on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
The image titled The Light, the Dark, and the Dusty shows the Cave Nebula, in which pinkish-tinged hydrogen and dark clouds of dust and molecules, all traces of star formation, are mixed.
The Cave Nebula is an emission nebula, formed of gases that emit their own light. It is part of a much larger cloud of gas and dust called Cepheus B, named after its home constellation, Cepheus, and lies roughly 3,000 light-years away, in the plane of the Milky Way galaxy.

On its Astronomy Picture of the Day site, NASA features a different image or photograph of the universe every day, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.
