2023 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Cup kicks off next week in Szeged

The 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Cup kicks off next week, between May 11 and 14, at Maty-ér Race Track near Szeged.

Athletes from all over the world will come together at Maty-ér to measure their progress before a second world cup two weeks later in Poznan, Poland. Both these World Cups are important on the road to Paris, since teams can still run tests and experiments before competing for 2024 Olympic quotas at the ICF World Championships, held in August in Duisburg, Germany.

As the International Canoe Federation states in their article: "Szeged has built a reputation as one of the premiere venues for canoe sprint in the world, reflecting the standing canoe sprint and paracanoe holds among Hungarians. The city has hosted four ICF World Championships, the first back in 1998, and regularly hosts world cups and junior and U23 world titles."

The Maty-ér Race Track

also known as the Szeged Olympic Center, is considered one of the best-performing kayak and rowing facilities in the world. Eight kilometers away from downtown Szeged, the almost 2.5 kilometers long and 130-meter-wide track, which opened in 1981, has been hosting different rowing and fishing world championships since 1989.

The event is free to visit.
