SZTE among top 3 Hungarian universities on the latest CWUR list

The University of Szeged is among the top 3 Hungarian universities on the latest Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

20,531 institutions were ranked in total, from which the best 2000 made it to the 2023 CWUR list published on May 15. Overall, SZTE ranks at 708th place, while on the national level, it is the 3rd best university among the 7 Hungarian institutions ranked.

CWUR ranks universities from all over the world without relying on surveys and university data submissions. Rankings are based on seven indicators, grouped into four areas — Education, Employability, Faculty, and Research. This year, 62 million outcome-based data points were analyzed.

The Education area, considered with a 25% weight, measures the number of a university's alumni who have won prestigious academic distinctions relative to the university's size. Employability, again with 25 % weight, is measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held top positions at major companies relative to the university's size.

Faculty rankings are measured by the number of faculty members who have won prestigious academic distinctions, this is considered with 10% weight. The last area, Research, consists of 4 indicators — research output, high-quality publications, influence, and citations — each weighing 10 %.

Although overtaken by Eötvös Lóránd University and Semmelweis University on the national level, SZTE grabbed the first place in the Faculty area, ranking at 197 — the best result among Hungarian universities.
