13th Francophone Film Days at Belvárosi Mozi Szeged

The 2023 Francophone Film Days will be held at Belvárosi Mozi Szeged between March 4 and 11 and on March 31.

This year, the 13th Francophone Film Days will feature eight movies, from which seven will be screened in French, and one in Italian. Next to France, the films featured come from various Francophone regions, such as Morocco, Belgium, and Canada, and almost all of them have been screened and won awards at major international film festivals.

The genre-rich selection also includes a 1970 crime film with Alain Delon in the lead role.

Chronique d'une liaison passagère (Diary of a Fleeting Affair, 2022, 100')

A romantic movie about a single mother and a married man who enter a purely sexual relationship but find themselves more and more drawn toward each other.

Les enfants des autres (Other People's Children, 2022, 104')

Drama about the life of a woman, who is starting to form a strong bond with her boyfriend's 4-year-old daughter and at the same time feels the urge of having her own children.

Monday, March 6

Les passagers de la nuit (The Passengers of the Night, 2022, 111')

Drama about Elisabeth, a woman raising her two teenagers alone, after being left by her husband. She finds a job at a radio station's night show, where she meets the 18-year-old Talulah. Elisabeth decides to take Talulah under her wing and the girl's open spirit soon starts to influence the whole family.

Tuesday, March 7

Les choses humaines (The Accusation, 2021, 138')

The drama follows the story of a young student, accused of having raped the daughter of his mother's boyfriend. In front of the court, the two youngsters recount what happened based on their own memories, while the contradictions arising from the different world views and religions of their families also come to the surface.

Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle, 1970, 140')

After getting released from prison, master thief Corey crosses paths with a notorious killer who is on the run and an alcoholic former policeman. The trio proceeds to plot an elaborate heist at the most guarded jewelry store in Paris, with inspector Mattei constantly in their footsteps.

Thursday, March 9

As bestas (The Beasts, 2022, 137')

The French-Spanish thriller is about a middle-aged French couple living in a small village in Galicia, living peacefully growing crops and protecting ruined houses. The contradictions around a planned wind farm investment quickly turn sour, especially due to the brutal behavior of their neighbors. After a while, the lives of Antoine and Olga are at stake.

Friday, March 10

L'ombra di Caravaggio (Caravaggio's Shadow, 2022, 120')

Historical drama in 1609. Caravaggio is escaping from Rome to Naples while he is being accused of murder. With the help of the Colonna family, he hopes for grace from the Church. The Pope appoints an Inquisitor who begins to investigate the painter and his increasingly subversive and immoral art.

Saturday, March 11

La Brigade (The Kitchen Brigade, 2022, 97')

Comedy-drama about Cathy, a sous-chef wanting to open a restaurant of her own. Dealing with financial difficulties, Cathy accepts a job at a shelter for young migrants. At first, she hates the job then her passion for cuisine starts to change the youngsters' lives.

Friday, March 31

Bootlegger (2021, 81')

Mani goes home to the indigenous North Canadian community in which she grew up. The pain from the past comes back but Mani decides to stay in the reserve, and settle down. She enters the debate on whether to allow alcoholic beverages to be sold freely in the community or not.
