New exhibition opened at REÖK All-arts Center

Update: the exhibition is extended until January 14, 2024, and a new artwork has been installed.

A lifework exhibition of Győző Sárkány, titled Létidő (roughly translates to Time of Existence), opened at the Reök All-arts Center in Szeged on Saturday, October 7.

The multiple award-holder Győző Sárkány is famous for his work showing the influence of various art history styles and trends, from Renaissance to contemporary, using graphics, illustration, painting, and photography, among others.

"The Győző Sárkány exhibition invites us to a journey, at the end of which we will discover ourselves, the beauty of our existence, the divine spark" Eszter Vitályos, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, said at the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition, spanning two levels of the Reök Palace — including spaces that are usually not open for exhibits — showcases 473 of Sárkány Győző's works created over the past almost 50 years. One of the most spectacular features of the exhibition is the more than ten-meter-high picture installation consisting of 42 elements, which welcomes visitors in the hall of the Reök Palace, rising from the ground floor to the sunroof.

After the opening of the exhibition, a representative album about the work of Győző Sárkány, edited by art historian Ildikó D. Udvary, director of the Pesterzsébet Museum, was presented.

Létidő, the lifework exhibition of Győző Sárkány, can be visited at the Reök All-arts Center in Szeged until December 3, 2023.
