Margaret Island tours with the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company - the show comes to Szeged on October 23
Hungarian indie pop band Margaret Island and the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company presents a pilot project called Szabadon szép a tánc — roughly translates to Dance is beautiful when free — on a Hungarian tour, performing in Szeged too. In addition to music, the art of movement plays a central role in the performance and Margaret Island's singer Viki Lábas will also dance.
The Hungary tour starts in Veszprém on October 14 and includes 8 cities nationwide. The production comes to Szeged on October 23.
The band founded by Viki Lábas, Bálint Füstös, and Kristóf Törőcsik will present themselves this time in an unusual form and perform their well-known songs in a new arrangement.
During the tour, they will be joined by six dancers, and the singer of the band, Viki, will step out of her comfort zone and perform ballet at the performances. "I started rehearsals with the dancers at the beginning of the year, I am constantly commuting between Szeged and Budapest. This period is both exciting and tiring, but at the same time it is very liberating to express feelings in this way, I am waiting for the audience to see what we are working so hard on," says Viki Lábas.
Gergely Czár, a member of the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company, is responsible for the choreography, and gave additional meaning to the recordings of Margaret Island through the life situations staged in the episodic scenes of the performance. In this way, the ensemble also expresses everything that concerns them through the language of dance: they reflect on personal and social issues and problems during the show.
Songs from the group's EP album, which will be released in the fall, will also be played at the intimate all-art performance, and they will also prepare for the tour stops with rarely played songs and an acoustic part.
The unique performance will be held at the National Theater of Szeged on October 23.
