Szeged Eye is back - the 50m tall Ferris Wheel at Dóm Square is open

The 50 m tall Ferris wheel — probably the biggest attraction of last year's Christmas Market in Szeged — is already back at Dóm Square. The wheel has been set into operation and awaits passengers since Sunday, October 22.

"Szeged Eye", as it is often called on social media, was a blast during its debut year in 2022, as, compared to previous years, it stepped up the Ferris wheel game in Szeged. It is approximately 10 meters taller than the Ferris wheels in the Szeged Christmas Markets before 2022 and instead of open cabins has almost entirely closed ones with enough room for 6 people per cabin.

Each cabin has two small open windows and the lights inside can be turned on and off manually. One round is 6 minutes long, during which the wheel makes 3 full turns. The wheel has a maximum capacity of 180 people.

At its highest point, the wheel takes visitors to almost the same level as the viewing terrace high up in the Dóm's left tower. With clear skies, all the major sights of Szeged can be seen, including the Móra Ferenc Museum, the Belvárosi Bridge over the Tisza, the New Synagogue, the Franciscan Church at Mátyás Square, the Water Tower at Szent István Square, but the huge water tower and the Telekom tower in Rókus are also in view. Dóm Square and the Votive Church can be observed from a totally new perspective.

The wheel will probably give the best night views during the Szeged Christmas Market (Szegedi Karácsonyi Hetek - literally Szeged Christmas Weeks) which will be held between December 1-24, 2023.

The main site of this year's Christmas Weeks will again be the Dóm Square, with a handicraft market, food and drink stalls, a straw labyrinth for kids, a huge advent wreath, festive lights, and regular programs. Two new visual elements, a sphere, and a heart-shaped illuminated selfie point, will also be set up at Dóm Square.

According to the present schedule, the wheel will operate until January 7, 2024.

Compared to the previous year, Ferris Wheel prices have stayed the same, except that there are no discounted tickets for students:

Adults: HUF 2500

Children (between 2 and 14 years of age): HUF 2000

Note: tickets are only valid on the day of purchase.
