The István Vántus Contemporary Music Days 2022 are held between Monday, November 21, and Thursday, November 24. The 4-day music festival, organized by the István Vántus Society Association, the Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts of the University of Szeged, and the Albert Szent-Györgyi Agora, includes thirteen events and four accompanying events.

Concerts will take place at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Agora, the Korzó Music Hall, the Sándor Bálint Cultural Center, the Reök Palace, the Somogyi Library, and the SZTE JGYPK Institute of Art Department of Music Education.

Contemporary Music Days was founded in 1971 and has been named after István Vántus, composer and head professor of the Szeged Conservatory (now SZTE Faculty of Music), since 1997.

"This year, the event also includes a cimbalom course. There are no cimbalom players in Szeged today, and there is no education of this kind either, which is why it is of great importance that this year two artists from Budapest are holding a cimbalom course in Szeged." - Szeged.hu reported from the organizers' press conference.

According to the news portal, Mária Újvári Illés, secretary of the István Vántus Society, emphasized that it is among the special features that two pieces of the late composer will be played at the festival - Harangszó (Chime), which has only been performed once in Szeged until now, and the never-before-played Meditáció (Meditation).

Detailed program - in Hungarian - is available at the vantustarsasag.hu website.

All concerts of the István Vántus Contemporary Music Days are free to visit.
