Because of the rising energy costs, new energy-saving measures will be introduced at the University of Szeged. According to yesterday's press release, the temperature in the university buildings will be maximized during the entire heating season, and the institution will have a 2x1-week administrative break and a 1-week winter closure as follows:

  1. administrative break, part 1: December 19, 2022 - December 23, 2022

  2. winter closure: December 24, 2022 - January 1, 2023

  3. administrative break, part 2: January 2, 2023 - January 8, 2023

During the first and second parts of the administrative break, exams will take place continuously, but with reduced hall capacity. There will be an exam break during the winter closure.

Dormitories:

SZTE dormitories will be closed during the administrative break and winter closure as part of the energy-saving measures. In particular cases, those students who cannot travel home during the closure can request accommodation in the "A" building of the Károlyi College, the Móra College, the Semmelweis College, or the Öthalmi Student Apartments.

University buildings:

Most of the university buildings will be closed during the administrative breaks and the winter closure, except for the health and public education buildings, the József Attila Study and Information Center, and the animal houses belonging to the university.

Temperatures in university buildings:

Temperatures in SZTE buildings will be maximized during the entire heating season.

During the administrative breaks and the winter closure, the heating in the closed university buildings will be lowered to 10 °C. This temperature will be maintained until 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023. From 10 a.m. on Saturday, the heating will be continuously restored to the normal operating temperature, so it is expected that the buildings will have the required temperature by the start of work on Monday.
