For the second time already, Szeged received the Hild Award for its downtown developments from the Hungarian Urban Planning Society. The award was presented on October 21, 2022, at the National Urban Planning conference in Pécs.

Szeged applied for this year's award with the renovation of the Belvárosi Bridge area, which consisted of three projects:

  1. the Green City Downtown Project (Tisza river bank, Stefánia, Móra Park, Roosevelt Square),

  2. the renovation of the Museum and the remains of the Castle,

  3. and the reconstruction of the Belvárosi Bridge area with Stefánia, Híd Street, and Oskola Street.

The Hungarian Urban Planning Society announced winners of the award for the 38th time this year, awarding municipalities that have achieved outstanding results in the field of purposeful, sustainable, integrated, and strategic settlement development. The award is named after János Hild (1766-1811), master builder and one of the first known Hungarian urban planners. Szeged received the Hild Award for the first time in 1979, on the centenary of the great flood of Szeged.
