Mask wearing and COVID-19 vaccine cards no longer required in Hungary

Hungary removes the vast majority of COVID-19 restrictions as the fifth wave of the pandemic is coming to an end. - announced Minister Gergely Gulyás at the Prime Ministry's regular weekly press conference in Budapest on Thursday, March 3.

According to the new regulations effective from Monday, March 7:

  1. wearing a mask will not be compulsory, except in hospitals and social institutions

  2. vaccine card rules will be removed

  3. employers can no longer make COVID-19 vaccination compulsory, except for social and health workers

The minister said they would maintain the health emergency because of, among other things, the risk of a possible sixth wave and maintaining the government’s ability to act.
