Hungarian set decorator Zsuzsanna Sipos wins BAFTA - nominated for Oscar

Patrice Vermette and Zsuzsanna Sipos collect the BAFTA Award for Production Design for Dune

Sci-fi movie Dune won big at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTAs) on Sunday, March 13. Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 adaptation of the epic Frank Herbert novel had the most nominations (11). The movie won five awards: for original score, cinematography, production design, sound, and special visual effects.

The 2022 BAFTA Award for Production Design went to Dune's production designer Patrice Vermette and set decorator Zsuzsanna Sipos. Sipos was involved in the preparation of the film, leading the crew working on building the sets and props. The film was partially shot in Budapest.

The Dune movie has also won the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA) Award for Best Achievement In Decor/Design for a Fantasy/Science Fiction Feature Film, amongst numerous other awards.

Zsuzsanna Sipos and Patrice Vermette got nominated for an Oscar with Dune, in the “Best production design” category. This year's Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 27.
