Szeged Contemporary Dance Company performing at Pécs International Dance Festival
The 16th Pécs International Dance Festival will be held between September 16-20. On the closing day, Szeged Contemporary Dance Company will perform Vadak (Wilds) at the National Theater of Pécs.
The aim of the festival, launched in 2007 by Ballet Pécs and former director Balázs Vincze, is to attract dance companies both from Hungary and abroad and to show as many dance genres to the public as possible.
It is our mission to show locals and guests how colorful and powerful dance traditions are in our Borderless City and also how many various styles and forms there are in the international world of dance. We wish to contribute to making Pécs a high-standard festival town by creating the Pécs International Dance Festival, which has become a significant dance event of the region over the years.
Vadak is a joint production of the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company and MÜPA Budapest.
The group behind the fence shows itself to the audience in constant movement, in a war dance reminiscent of a tribal rite. The force created by the internal cohesion of the barbaric community has a threatening effect on those on the other side of the fence.
The difference between the two sides emerges dramatically, the instinctive wildness of the dance and the civilized attitude of the audience drifting into an increasingly tense distance from each other. When the dividing fence opens, a fatal sacrificial dance begins. But the outcome is not clear.
The inner battle between the world of instincts and the intellect is shown in a symbolic stage play. The attractive dance of the dancers and the rhythmic playing of the orchestra create a burning tension even in the motionless viewer, prioritizing visceral perception instead of intellectual acceptance.
