Cake of Hungary 2022 is the Huncut Szilva Herceg (Naughty Plum Prince), created by confectioner Orsolya Karikó from Nagykőrös. The Sugar-free Cake of Hungary 2022 is the Nagyi kedvence (Granny's Favorite), by master confectioner László Gyuris from Szeged.
The Cake of Hungary competition - announced each year by the Hungarian Confectionery Trade Association - is in its 16th year in 2022. Competing cakes have to contain typical Hungarian flavors and fruits that have a connection to the August 20 celebrations and to Hungary.
In this case, the Naughty Plum Prince showcases an excellent red wine from Eger and delicious Hungarian plums. Granny's Favorite, the Sugar-free Cake of Hungary in 2022, has raspberries, pistachio, white chocolate, and mascarpone among its ingredients.

The Cake of the Country competition is part of the August 20 State Foundation Day celebrations. The winner of the competition - practically the birthday cake of Hungary - is announced during the Street of Flavours event in Budapest, where it is also sold during the whole event.
The winning cake is then prepared all over Hungary for the festivities, in over 400 confectionaries - many of these continue to offer the Cake of the Country all year long.
