Prof. Dr. Katalin Karikó and fellow researchers received Prince Mahidol Award in Thailand 

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as the representative of His Majesty the King of Thailand, presented the Prince Mahidol Award 2020 and 2021 at the Chakri Throne Hall on January 27, 2022.

The Prince Mahidol Award 2021 in the field of Medicine was presented to (1) Prof. Dr. Katalin Karikó (USA / Hungary), Prof. Dr. Drew Weissman (USA), for developing mRNA technology and its applications in medicine which led to the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine development; (2) Prof. Dr. Pieter Cullis (Canada), for researching lipid nanoparticles which led to the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine development.

Katalin Karikó is a professor at the University of Szeged and an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
