Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics start next week - quick facts
Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to take place between February 4-20.
A total of 109 events will be held in 15 disciplines across seven sports: biathlon, bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, luge, skating, and skiing.
The 2022 Winter Paralympics are scheduled to take place between March 4-13.
Since the Beijing area does not experience much snow in recent years, the entire Games will feature artificial snow for outdoor events.
According to Covid-19 protocols set for this event, the Olympic Games will be held in a bubble. The measures will stay in place from January 23 until the end of the Winter Paralympics on March 13 and will cover the opening and closing ceremonies, all stadiums and competition venues, accommodations, and catering. Spectators will be allowed, but only if they live in mainland China.
The Beijing Winter Olympics will include new mixed men’s and women’s team events in freestyle skiing, short-track speed skating, snowboarding and ski jumping.

Fun fact: Beijing is the first city to host both Winter (2022) and Summer (2008) Olympics.
