Experience Hungarian language and culture at the 2025 Summer University in Szeged

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Szeged is again welcoming language enthusiasts and cultural explorers. The 25th edition of the Hungarian Studies Summer University, offering an immersive learning experience in the heart of Hungary, will take place from July 13 to August 9, 2025.

Course Offerings and Structure

Participants can choose between a 4-week or 2-week intensive course, with options for custom dates upon request. Throughout the program, students will engage in Hungarian language courses at five proficiency levels – beginner, lower intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced. Classes run Monday through Friday, with three 90-minute sessions daily, ensuring a structured yet dynamic learning environment.

Beyond language learning, students will delve into Hungarian culture through lectures, field trips, and interactive programs such as film screenings. Daily 90-minute cultural sessions or excursions will further enhance participants' understanding of Hungary’s rich history and traditions.

Cultural and Leisure Activities

The Summer University goes beyond the classroom, offering an array of optional excursions and entertainment. Students can explore Budapest on a guided tour or visit the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park to discover Hungary’s historical roots.

Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the Szeged Open-Air Festival (Szegedi Szabadtéri Játékok), Hungary’s largest open-air theater festival. The event series features theater performances, musicals, and concerts at stunning venues.

The Summer University kicks off with a welcome evening featuring dinner and traditional folk dance and concludes with a farewell party, celebrating the friendships and experiences gained during the course.
