Csongrád Plein Air International Artcamp works exhibited in Szeged

An exhibition featuring a selection of artworks from the 2024 Plein Air International Artcamp in Csongrád is now open at the Department of Art and Art History of the University of Szeged. The exhibition, which opened on September 26, showcases nearly 50 pieces, including paintings, graphics, and sculptures created by artists from six different countries who participated in the 34th Csongrád Plein Air International Artcamp this summer. The exhibition was inaugurated by percussionist Gergő Mucsi, art historian Anna Váraljai, and Sándor Aranyi, the founder and director of the Plein Air International Artcamp.

"In the early nineties, I was invited to an art residency in Mirabel, in the south of France. I liked the atmosphere so much that we held it in Csongrád the following year," recalled Sándor Aranyi, the founder and director of the Plein Air International Artcamp. According to Aranyi, the Csongrád Artcamp is not only a home for painters. The essence of the Artcamp is that all genres can be explored, from painting to sculpture and graphics, from bronze casting to photography. True to the spirit of Plein Air, artists are truly free to create, not only outdoors but also using the studios, if they wish. The founder also explained that the Csongrád Plein Air has so far attracted almost two hundred artists from twenty-seven countries.

Anna Váraljai spoke about the essence of plein-air painting and the 34-year-old history of the Csongrád Plein Air International Artcamp. She added that the exhibition of works from the Csongrád Art Colony is always very eclectic because everyone in this art colony is somewhat experimental.

The exhibition will be open until October 19, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Sundays, at the gallery of the SZTE Department of Art and Art History on Brüsszeli körút.
