Munkácsy's Yawning Apprentice recreated in Klimt, Van Gogh and Anime style by AI

Artificial Intelligence has reinterpreted Munkácsy's painting The Yawning Apprentice in several artistic styles. The Móra Ferenc Museum opened an exhibition of these AI works in connection with the current Munkácsy exhibition, the museum announced in a press release.

In conjunction with the current Munkácsy exhibition, the Móra Ferenc Museum is presenting a new chamber exhibition. Mihály Munkácsy's iconic work, The Yawning Apprentice, has been reimagined using artificial intelligence in various artistic styles. The exhibition aims to show how AI can be used uniquely in the context of traditional exhibitions.

The project was carried out by the museum's graphic designer, Milán Magyar, who asked one of the artificial intelligence programs designed to create images to recreate the Yawning Apprentice based on various commands. The task was not easy: although the AI was given precise instructions, it did not produce an image that accurately reproduced all the elements of the original painting.

The exhibition features more than 70 AI-generated images. The Yawning Apprentice appears in cave paintings, as Egyptian and Ancient Greek art, and in the style of Michelangelo, Klimt, and Van Gogh. There are also reinterpretations in pop art, cyberpunk, graffiti, and anime. The exhibition also explains the process, challenges, and difficulties of the project.

The chamber exhibition can be seen at the Móra Ferenc Museum until November 17, 2024.
