11th Sapiens Ubique Civis Conference at the SZTE Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Sapiens Ubique Civis PhD Student and Young Scholar Conference on Classics and the Reception of Antiquity will be held for the eleventh time between August 28-30, at the Department of Classical Philology and Neo-Latin Studies of the University of Szeged – the organizers informed Szegedify.
According to the press release, one of the conference's main objectives is to provide young researchers in the field with the opportunity to present and publish their work at a now prestigious international conference and in an international journal. Since 2020, the organizers have been offering the opportunity to publish the papers in their journal, jointly published with the Eötvös József Collegium of ELTE, after a rigorous peer review.
Another important aim of the event is to introduce young researchers from all over the world to the city and the University of Szeged, in addition to the research of Hungarian antiquity, Neolatin studies, and their reception. The organizers' statement also indicates their commitment to enhancing the reputation and visibility of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Szeged.
Some of the themes of this year's conference are Greek literature, Roman literature, Greek culture, Roman history, late antiquity, art and archaeology, Neolatin studies, and the contemporary reception of antiquity.
Over forty young researchers will present their latest scientific achievements in Szeged this year. Many of the eight plenary lectures will be given by young scientists who have participated in the Sapiens Ubique Civis conference several times over the past decade and have since obtained their doctorate.
This year, participants and plenary speakers will come from universities in twelve countries, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The detailed conference program is available on the event's Facebook page and website.
