SZTE graduate selected for special European Space Agency program

A recent graduate of SZTE has been selected for a special program of the European Space Agency (ESA), the University of Szeged announced in a press release.

Levente Antal will spend 1 month in Belgium as part of the "CubeSat Summer School" program. European Space Agency (ESA) staff and external experts will give a wide range of lectures and hands-on activities to an elite group of students from over 20 countries.

At the time of application, Levente Antal was in his final semester at the Faculty of Science and Informatics of the University of Szeged, where, in the meanwhile, he had successfully completed his studies in electrical engineering. The European Space Agency (ESA) is looking for university students who are not only interested in space exploration but who have already acquired solid knowledge in a specific field.

Levente was introduced to space exploration through Adam Kiss while working on the development of the small spacecraft student module MRC-100. He was then involved in the construction of the local student satellite receiving station and worked on the development of a control module for a high-altitude balloon used in space exploration. As part of his current research, he is involved in the design of a redundant power supply system for a small satellite.

"With a solid professional basis, the necessary determination, and the experience gained, we can also gain access to international funding. I'm proud that my mentored student Levi is already here, but I can't forget that he has further to go," said Adam Kiss.

“I believe that success is a multivariate equation. It was important to establish the potential for professional projects and to offer support for these projects at the same time. Having the necessary tools already available at the university was incredibly helpful. It also demanded a certain level of determination to balance research with studies. We have not yet received a precise draft program, but in addition to the numerous technical presentations and exercises, we will be able to learn about the entire project life cycle of a satellite mission, from planning to monitoring. We will also get information on the legal, cybersecurity, and economic aspects of space projects. I would like to continue to be actively involved in space research projects at the University of Szeged. I aim to gain deeper knowledge in different areas of space exploration and contribute to the advancement of the scientific community," explained Levente Antal.
