New types of traffic signs have been installed at many busy intersections in Szeged, announced municipal representative Tamás Urbán and police Major Róbert Vad, acting spokesperson of the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters on Tuesday, March 5.

To help pedestrians cross the roads safely, new types of signs have been installed at many busy intersections in Szeged, which are reflective and therefore much more noticeable. On Tuesday, new traffic signs were put up at the intersection of Etelka sor and Felső-Tisza part.

As Tamás Urbán explained, last year, in the first phase of the project, 61 signs were placed in 22 locations at busy intersections in Szeged for a total cost of nearly HUF 3 million. Thanks to the favorable experiences so far, the program will continue this year. In 2024, Szeged will spend HUF 3.5 million to replace 38 signs with new ones — that are much more noticeable and are more visible in poor visibility conditions — in 17 junctions.

There are no accident hotspots in Szeged, i.e. intersections where there are significantly more pedestrian accidents, explained Maj. Róbert Vad. The location of the new signs was therefore decided based on traffic data, and they were placed where pedestrian and car traffic is more significant, he added.
