Bartók Béla Square renewed and reopened
Szeged's renewed Bartók Béla Square was handed over on Saturday, February 3.
The Szeged municipality modernized the entire area with HUF 100 million of its own resources, to provide a greener and safer community space in the heart of the city. Instead of the previous, mostly concrete, and not very friendly-looking area, now renovated playground equipment, renewed basketball and soccer fields, and more grassy areas await the residents of Szeged.
To increase safety, the community space at Bartók Square is now fenced off and equipped with six surveillance cameras. An automatic toilet has also been installed next to the playground, outside of the fenced-off area.
The official handover ceremony was held on Saturday, with the participation of Mayor László Botka, municipal representative Ildikó Szondi and deputy mayor József Binszki. Families were welcomed with hot tea, cakes, handicraft activities, a petting zoo, and a kids' concert in the renewed community square.
