Commemoration of the revolution of 1956 took place in Szeged

The commemoration of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 took place in multiple locations in Szeged today.

The Municipality of Szeged traditionally holds its commemoration at the statue of Imre Nagy on Rákóczi Square, while the opposition parties hold their commemoration at the statue of the youth of 1956 on Rerrich Béla Square, as was the case this year.

The city celebrations began with the ceremonial raising of the national flag in front of the City Hall, assisted by the Ferenc Fricsay Municipal Brass Band and the Pavane Dance Group members. Afterward, the program was enriched by a musical and literary composition of the actors of the National Theatre of Szeged and a performance of the ensemble of the Szeged Municipal Choir Association accompanied by musicians of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra.

Sándor Szabó, a Member of Parliament, delivered this year's speech at the commemoration in Rákóczi Square. After the actors' performance, political parties and civil organizations laid wreaths at the statue of Imre Nagy.
