Szeged Open-Air Festival preparations underway, some shows already sold out

Construction works and preparations are underway at both venues of the 2023 Szeged Open-Air Festival, to get ready for one of the city’s largest events. Tickets for some of the shows and concerts were already sold out weeks ago.

From the end of June 2023, the Szeged Open-Air Festival — better known as Szegedi Szabadtéri — awaits the audience with musical plays at Dóm Square and a series of concerts at the Újszeged Outdoor Theater.

Each year, a huge, 4000-seat tribune facing the Votive Church of Szeged, and a nearly 2000 square meter stage is built up in June, right before the season starts, and taken apart at the end of August, after the last show of the festival.

At the main venue, Dóm Square, the season starts on July 1 with the traditional gift concert of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, which will be followed by an opera and operetta gala, entitled On a Moonlit Night, on July 7.

At the second location, in Újszeged, the festival starts a few days earlier, on June 28, with a concert of the Kossuth and Liszt prize-winner singer-composer Zorán. The opening concert is already sold out, just like the concert of the Kossuth Prize-winner singer, lyricist, and songwriter Ferenc Demjén, on July 5.

The next two evenings at the Újszeged Outdoor Theater, with Jeanie Linders’ Menopause: The Musical playing on July 7 and 8, are also sold out, similarly to the concert of American jazz fusion guitarist Al Di Meola on July 26.

Most of the other shows and concerts still have available tickets. Find the full program at the festival’s website here.
