Closing event of the "Development of Smart City and Smart Village Technologies" project at SZTE

The closing event of the "Development of Smart City and Smart Village Technologies at Sagemcom, in university cooperation" project took place on Thursday, September 22, at the University of Szeged. The project, run by Sagemcom, was accomplished with the cooperation of the University of Szeged, Pannon University, FrontEndART, and Yazoo-Systems. After the opening talks, representatives of the consortium members summarized the tasks and achievements of each actor. As the final program of the event, participants could visit a demo room illustrating the processes.

During the development project, the task was to research and develop complex technical solutions that enable the implementation of sustainable, economical, and safe electricity services for isolated settlements and other communities, especially in an infrastructurally backward environment where the population and businesses are not provided with satisfactory public utilities.

The results achieved during the project can provide significant help in mitigating today's energy supply problems, and in building and operating affordable and sustainable energy production and energy services.

As a result of the consortium project, a complex system was developed that distributes locally produced electricity from solar panels and wind turbines among local network subscribers and stores the excess, unused energy. The increased energy demand at night or during peak periods is supplemented by a diesel generator, although its use can be reduced thanks to the right planning of the energy distribution. Consumers can use the service based on a pre-purchased subscription system.

The Sagemcom Smart Village technologies will be implemented in African countries like Mali and Ivory Coast, and are already in use in Madagascar. Smart City technologies, developed to be used in metropolitan infrastructure, use the most modern information and communication technologies to reduce operating costs, contribute to sustainability and promote more efficient use of energy.
