2023 Szeged International Airshow roundup with photo gallery

The 2023 Szeged International Airshow (SZIA), held on September 8-9, awaited visitors with plenty of programs and warm, sunny weather. As usual, the first day — Friday — featured various aerobatics shows and the much-awaited light show with drones and pyrotechnics after sunset. According to visitors who attended the SZIA on Friday evening, this year's light show was by far the most spectacular in the history of the Szeged Airshow.

Saturday featured a colorful day full of breathtaking display flights by gliders, small planes, and even helicopters. The program included a wing-walking demonstration — the first of its kind in Hungary — and ended with a parachute jump with lights and pyrotechnics. The detailed program of the 2023 SZIA can be read in our two previous articles by clicking here and here.

While sightseeing flights could be joined throughout the whole event, the last day, Sunday, was dedicated to these flights alone — no shows were held on this day. Although the weekend was spectacular and successful, the 2023 Szeged International Airshow ended with a tragic event. On Sunday afternoon, the organizers announced on the event's Facebook page that two famous Szeged pilots lost their lives during a display flight at the Börgönd Airshow, near Székesfehérvár. Visitors could still admire the father-son duo flying with their iconic T-28 Trojan plane on the previous day in Szeged. Read more here.
