Cold brew and espresso tonic in town - Beat the heat with the best iced coffees of Szeged

Who cares about heat waves when we have excellent espresso tonic and cold brew in town? Let’s dive into the wonderful world of iced coffees in Hungary's city of sunshine, Szeged.

Hét Kávézó

Hét Kávézó is a friendly place on a small street in the city center, but a bit further away from the buzz of the main tourist attractions and the masses of people.

They usually offer both dark and light roast beans, and a nice selection of hot and cold coffees. The light roast comes from their own roastery, Coffee Bud. If you want something special in the heat, ask for a cold brew, a Red Light, or an iced matcha latte.

Kék Elefánt

You'll find all the classics at Kék Elefánt. However, if you want to go next level, try the espresso tonic or the Cold Blood. It’s very subjective, but in my case, only a few things can bring me back to life in the heat like the Hard Cold Blood: ice, blood orange juice, and two espressos.

Kék Elefánt works with some of the finest beans available in the country, and whatever you choose, the result is always harmonious and round - just perfect. The location is great - tucked away in a quiet courtyard in the middle of downtown Szeged.

Antique Café & Tea

In the quest of beating the heat with iced coffees, another excellent choice is Antique Café&Tea. You'll find a nice, welcoming atmosphere here and a good selection of chilled drinks from iced matcha tonic to specialty teas, from iced chai latte to cold brew.

Antique Café&Tea is about 10-15 minutes on foot from the city center, but it's easily accessible by bike, or by tram from Dugonics square. It’s worth the extra distance since you’ll find some of the friendliest staff here and a really diverse picture when it comes to the customers.

Emmarozs

Emmarozs is a specialty bakery, with some of the finest handmade French pastries and long-matured sourdough bread in town. Enough space to sit inside and outside, and a great menu with warm lunch options and sandwiches.

Emmarozs stocks beans from Hungary’s best roasters and offers excellent iced coffees. Their new addition, the Shakerato will blow your mind away with its aesthetics - or with the fact that there’s Vodka in it :)

Agárúr

Agárúr has a great vibe, and it's a bit larger than most of the specialty cafés, with tables inside and a lovely terrace outside. There are books and science magazines for you to read, and the place also functions as a gallery for artwork. You can even stock up your garderobe with unique T-shirts printed here.

In the iced coffee section, you’ll find espresso tonic, americano, and latte. Next to the tasty sandwiches, pies, and cookies, Agárúr offers warm breakfast options too.

Zsupsz Café

Thinking back to our full-time travel years, no matter where we were, we loved to check out tiny coffee shops - most of the time, these are full of character. That's the case with Zsupsz Café too. Small, but with a great vibe, excellent coffee, artworks on the walls, and fun reusable cups that you can purchase but also return for a refund.

Fun game for long travel hours: try to pronounce Zsupsz Café :)

If you thought that's all

This list is by no means complete since there are quite a few good cafés in Szeged. For example, first-time Szeged visitors and architecture lovers should definitely check out the historic REÖK building and the excellent café in it.

Foodies should not miss Hatos Rétes - the coffee and, of course, the rétes - while eco-warriors will find refreshingly good coffee at Tebe Szeged zero waste shop. And then there's the Barista, and Orient, and Dock Café, and affogato at Gabriella Fagylaltozó, and, and, and...
