SZTE is again the best Hungarian university in the QS World Rankings
The University of Szeged (SZTE) is again the best Hungarian university in the recent Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings.
The fact that SZTE has maintained its place in the 551-560 range, despite the significantly expanding list, shows its outstanding domestic and international educational, research, and artistic performance.
At the time of compiling the QS World University Rankings 2023, published on June 8, about 800 more (2,462) institutions were examined this year, including 124 new entrants among the 1,422 universities ranked. The number of Hungarian institutions examined also increased from nine to eleven this year.
Multi-level education, interdisciplinary diversity, and internationally visible publishing activity are needed for an institution to get on the global list. Six criteria are taken into account when ranking eligible universities: the academic recognition of the institution (40%), feedback from employers (10%), the proportion of teachers and students (20%), citation of scientific works (20%), and the proportion of international students (5%) and international lecturers and researchers (5%).
SZTE is successfully keeping pace with the dynamic development of the international field and is included in the same category as Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, the University of Eastern Finland, and the University of Cairo in Egypt, among others. The list is led by the U.S. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by Cambridge, Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard.
