The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) has decided to set up a common European emergency fund to support zoos in Ukraine.

The Association coordinates and collects donations online, and there are also fundraisers running on Facebook. EAZA works together with the Ukrainian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (UAZA) to monitor the current situation and help the zoos in need.

Amsterdam-based EAZA reported that from March 1, 100% of the raised funds will go to support the work of their colleagues at Ukrainian zoos and the animals in their care.

The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria is a community of progressive zoological institutions in Europe and West Asia and has more than 400 member institutions in 48 countries. Ukraine has three Zoos that are currently candidates for an EAZA membership: the Kyiv Zoological Park, the Myikolayiv Zoo, and the Kharkiv Zoo. EAZA also works together with other partner institutions in the country through the Association of Zoos of Ukraine (AZU).
