The University of Szeged - Szegedi Tudományegyetem, or SZTE - ranks as the best Hungarian higher education institution on the 2022 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University list.

SZTE has a reputation for scientific and educational excellence and maintains its position amongst the top 3 universities of Hungary from year to year. Moreover, SZTE performs very well on an international level, as it ranks among the top 500 universities of the world.

It is also one of the most popular higher education institutions in Hungary, with approximately 21000 students, including about 4100 foreign students

SZTE has 30 years of experience with international study programs, offers various scholarship possibilities, and cooperates with more than 130 high-ranking universities in 52 countries.

  • International study programs in various languages have been available at SZTE for 30 years

    The University offers international degree programs at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. level, as well as other preparatory programs in English and Hungarian.

    Within the frames of the ERASMUS+ program of the European Union, SZTE cooperates with 510 partner universities in 30 countries. The university also welcomes students based on different bilateral state scholarship agreements and is part of EUGLOH, The European University Alliance for Global Health.

    SZTE works in strong cooperation with international organizations operating in Szeged, such as the Confucius Institute, or the American Corner.

  • SZTE is a research university with outstanding performance and achievements. Work at the university covers 700 research areas at 19 Doctoral Schools and more than 60 full-time degree programs for international students. 

    Scholarships, such as the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme and the SZTE START Scholarship, assist students from various regions of the world to attend the University.

  • The picturesque city of Szeged lies at the Hungarian-Serbian-Romanian triple border and is the county seat of Csongrád-Csanád county. It is Hungary’s third-largest city and regional center of the Southern Great Plain. 

    Szeged is approximately a 2-hour-drive away from the Budapest International Airport (BUD) and is easily accessible by car, train, bus - even by plane and boat. 

    Most of the SZTE faculties are located in the city center, surrounded by beautiful architecture, large green parks, and the river Tisza.

  • Despite being Hungary’s third-largest city, Szeged is still relatively small in size and is a very liveable place. Beautiful architecture, clean environment, and the high number of international students from all over the world lend Szeged a truly cosmopolitan city feel.

    Szeged is considered one of the safest cities in Hungary. Locals are open, friendly, and proud of their city.

    Prices are still quite affordable on a European scale. Commuting is generally easy with a well-established public transport system and a relatively large bike route system.
