Votive Church of Szeged projected onto Burj Khalifa in Hungary’s National Day tribute

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lit up with Hungarian landmarks, including the Votive Church of Szeged also known as Szeged Dóm – to honor Hungary’s National Day on March 15, 2025. The tribute, featuring a video by ATV, was displayed at 18:10 local time.

"March 15 is a significant day for every Hungarian, no matter where they are in the world," wrote Péter Szijjártó on his Facebook page Saturday evening.

As reported by Szegeder, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade shared photos of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa illuminated with images of Hungary’s most iconic landmarks. Among them were Heroes’ Square and Matthias Church in Budapest, scenes from Hortobágy, the Votive Church of Szeged (Fogadalmi Templom or Szegedi Dóm in Hungarian), and other significant sites.

In addition to the images, a message in Hungarian meaning "Long Live Hungary" was projected onto the 828-meter-tall skyscraper, the tallest building in the world.

Earlier in March, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Budapest announced a competition to create a special tribute video to be displayed on the Burj Khalifa in honor of Hungary’s National Day. The winning entry came from ATV, whose celebratory video was ultimately projected onto the landmark, featuring Hungary’s most famous sites.

The projection took place on March 15 at 18:10 Dubai time. UAE Ambassador to Hungary H.E. Saud Hamad Al-Shamsi posted a video of the projection on his Facebook page.
